Exterior Before

Exterior Before Among the few first jobs was upgrading the exterior with fresh gutters, Andersen windows from The Home Depot and a new coat of light gray paint (Revere Pewter from Benjamin Moore). Front doors are painted Luau Green from Sherwin-Williams.   "We removed the brush and weeds, then put a brief row of boxwood and a row of ligustrum supporting them for a super-clean, manicured appearance," says Ashley.

Exterior After

Family Room Before While a sofa using a white slipcover might seem to be a risky choice for a family with two kids in regular school, Ashley asserts that "everything is almost indestructible" within this area, thanks to sturdy materials: Sunbrella sailcloth in salt to the couch's slipcover, Perennials fabric on the barrel chair and easy-to-clean Novasuede on the stool. The Parsons java table is from Crate & Barrel, and Ashley scored the French-style chair at Round Top, a biannual antiques fair in Texas, and had it re-covered in mohair. The carpet, purchased in Turkey, covers the majority of the tile flooring, which they didn't bother to modify. "This floor is not my first choice, but it is somewhat neutral, so we left it as is," says Ashley.

Family Room After

Living Room Before To create the built-in shelves and the brick wall evaporate, Ashley painted them the same warm white as another walls (Snowbound by Sherwin-Williams) and added doors into the shelves to flip them into cupboards. She painted the inside of the glistening Black Magic by Sherwin-Williams. The shag carpet was thrown in favor of wall-to-wall seagrass from Creative Flooring. "I like seagrass since it is a tricky surface, therefore furniture sits on it the way it would on hardwood," says Ashley. The custom-made armchairs are upholstered in Perennials fabric, and Ashley bought the bull's-eye mirror at Restoration Hardware.

Living Room After

Dining Nook Before The house lacks a formal dining room, so the family eats every meal in this corner off the kitchen. A mix of seating encircles the white tulip table from IKEA: Louis XVI chairs upholstered in camel-color leather, a modern S-shaped plastic chair and a storage bench topped with a teal Sunbrella-covered cushion. The turquoise-and-white pillows are from HomeGoods, and the Murano glass chandelier is from their old residence. "It may be too formal, but I couldn't keep to keep it in a box in the attic," says Ashley.

Dining Nook After

Kitchen Before Since they may someday build a new home on this great deal, Ashley didn't want to pour a bunch of money into a significant reno. But having an avid cook, she couldn't stomach the notion of turning out dishes from the outdated kitchen. Her short-term solution: Replace the previous countertops with affordable white linoleum and paint the cupboards inky black, a shade Ashley says "gives a space high fashion." She also replaced the cabinets close to the dining room with floating closets. A black-and-white-striped rug from Crate & Barrel and a Roman color with grosgrain-ribbon cut from Pottery Barn echo the black-stripe detail on the backsplash, they did not change. The star-shaped light fixture is from Circa Lighting.

Kitchen After

Sutton's Bedroom Ahead Authentic, 6-year-old Sutton's bedroom is adultlike, but "I didn't want to redecorate every three decades," says Ashley. She painted the walls can't-go-wrong light gray (Gray Screen from Sherwin-Williams) and needed a trundle bed upholstered in sandy-hued Pindler cloth. "It's easy to swap out bedding," she says. "And because his bed and walls are so neutral, we can change things over time to bring in colors he enjoys." The gallery wall is all Sutton-created, except for one print by abstract artist Steven Alexander framed with a mat that is oversize. The yellow side table is an outdoor part by McGuire.

Sutton's Bedroom After

Carys' Bedroom Before Ashley avoided a full-on pink attack and instead used the colour as an accent. "Carys is girly although not a princess," says Ashley, who painted the walls warm white (Snowbound by Sherwin-Williams) and the ceiling powdery pink (Strawberry Yogurt by Benjamin Moore), which provides the room a pastel glow. A striped rug from Dash & Albert that includes green and khaki helps soften the pink. The canopy bed, which Ashley had painted white, is from PBteen, the pale pink Roman sunglasses are from Pottery Barn Kids, and the mirrored dresser is from Z Gallerie.

Carys' Bedroom Following

Master Bedroom Before Two mandates Ashley has for many bedrooms she layouts, including her very own: Keep the palette neutral and the look symmetrical. She flanked her 5-foot-tall headboard with nightstands in the Longoria Collection store in Houston and mercury glass lamps from Restoration Hardware. The custom made linen window treatments not just look super polished, but also the Roman shade above the nightstand also disguises the fact that it is really covering a door, not a window. "To be honest, our room isn't that large, so in order to make our furniture match, the nightstand needed to go in front of the door," Ashley says. "We swapped out the French door that was there to get a door." A pair of velvet appliqu Lacefield cushions from Tuvalu add a pop of color to your room.

Master Bedroom After Plenty of natural light permitted Ashley to go dark in her miniature home office, painting it Dark Magic by Sherwin-Williams. By eliminating a cupboard, she made room for a custom made bit: a glass-and-wood desktop made to rest on two standard-issue file cabinets. Floating shelves that reach to the ceiling keep vertical space from going to waste. The highlight of this room is a vintage Platner seat with hot pink nubby wool that Ashley found at a mid-century-antiques shop. The zebra-print cube is from Williams-Sonoma Home.

Office

Patio Before "Among the things we love so much about this home is the garden," says Ashley. "There's no dedicated play space inside to your kids, so this is it." The Goforths added a row of Japanese soggy trees along the back fence for privacy and installed four raised garden beds that turn out a steady source of herbs, tomatoes, and peppers. Brown wicker furniture from Pottery Barn, an outside rug from Dash & Albert, and a custom table create the setting for day and weekend hangouts along with different families. A huge Sunbrella umbrella out of Pottery Barn shades the space on hot days. The planters are out of CB2.
